Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to recognize, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. Through practical, evidence-based training, participants learn how to approach someone who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, provide initial support, and help connect the person with appropriate resources.

Choose Your Mental Health First Aid Course

Adult Mental Health First Aid

This course is for adult participants who want to learn how to provide Mental Health First Aid to other adults. The course focuses on recognizing signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, approaching someone who may need support, and helping connect them with appropriate resources.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

This course is for adult participants who want to learn how to provide Mental Health First Aid to youth and adolescents. The course focuses on mental health and substance use challenges that may emerge during adolescence and prepares adults who interact with young people to recognize concerns, provide initial support, and connect youth with appropriate help.

Higher Education Mental Health First Aid

This course is for adult participants who are part of or work with college and university communities and want to learn how to provide Mental Health First Aid to college students and other adults in higher-education settings. The course addresses mental health and substance use challenges within the unique environment of higher education and prepares participants to recognize concerns, respond appropriately, and connect individuals with available resources.

Military, Veterans & Families Mental Health First Aid

This course is for adult participants who want to learn how to provide Mental Health First Aid to service members, veterans, and their families. The course incorporates experiences and challenges that may affect military-connected communities and prepares participants to recognize mental health and substance use concerns, provide initial support, and help connect individuals with appropriate military, veteran, and community resources.

Teen Mental Health First Aid

This course is for teens in grades 10–12 or ages 15–18 who want to learn how to support friends and peers who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Unlike the adult Mental Health First Aid courses, Teen Mental Health First Aid teaches teens how to recognize warning signs in their peers, offer appropriate support, and involve a trusted adult when help is needed.
